Good to know

Follow along and tag your stay @elwoods_aframe Welcome to Elwood A-Frame — a newly renovated original 1970s A-frame nestled on 2 wooded acres in the Rocky Mountains of Colorado, designed with a clean Scandinavian Nordic sensibility that feels cozy, intentional, and quietly unforgettable. What makes Elwood truly one of a kind is the view. Floor-to-ceiling windows frame a direct, unobstructed sightline to Pikes Peak, and on clear nights — most nights out here — you can watch the stars emerge from the same hot tub that overlooks the mountain by day. There's nothing quite like it. At 8,600 ft elevation in a designated dark sky community, the night sky here is exceptional. Whether you're soaking in the upgraded hot tub, reclining on the stargazing swing, or simply standing on the deck with a drink in hand, the stars are part of the experience. Designed for couples, solo travelers, small families, and anyone who needs to genuinely unwind, Elwood pairs mountain stillness with thoughtful, modern touches. Come to day trip, come to disconnect, come to refocus. The mountain air does the rest. ☆☆ HOT TUB & DARK SKY ☆☆ The newly upgraded 5-person hot tub is the centerpiece of the outdoor experience. Elevated on the deck with a direct sightline to Pikes Peak, it heats faster than ever and is ready to go when you are. Other Details to Note

✦ Fires: Absolutely no open fires on the property. Forest fire risk in Colorado is serious and real. The outdoor gas fire pit is available year-round but may be restricted during a Teller County Stage 2 or Stage 3 fire ban. Please book with this in mind. ✦ Winter: The driveway is plowed after approximately 5 inches of snowfall. AWD or 4x4 is required November through April. Snow can arrive as early as October and extend into May. If you don't have AWD or 4x4, you're welcome to park at the bottom of the driveway and walk up, but this will not be ideal. ✦ Elevation: Elwood sits at 8,600 ft. Some guests experience altitude symptoms (headache, fatigue, dizziness, nausea), especially if coming from lower elevations. We recommend giving yourself a day to acclimate in Denver or Boulder before arriving, staying well hydrated, and going easy on alcohol your first night. The natural spring water straight from the tap is some of the best water you'll ever drink — use it. ✦ Cellular Service: Rural mountain areas have limited and variable cell signal depending on your carrier. Screenshot your check-in instructions before you head up the road. ✦ Groceries: Most guests stop on the way in. Evergreen Station is 5 min away for basics. Florissant Mercantile is about 15 min. Divide has small markets at 20 min. Woodland Park (30 min) has the largest selection including City Market and Walmart. ✦ Septic & Well Water: The A-frame runs on a private well and septic system. Please only flush waste and toilet paper. The well water is clean, crisp, and delicious — many guests say it's the best water they've ever had. ✦ Baby & Toddler: Families are welcome. A pack-and-play is on site and ready to use. Please note the cabin is not fully childproofed — extra care is recommended around the spiral staircase to the loft. ✦ Pet Policy: One well-behaved dog is welcome. ▪ Water and food bowls provided ▪ Furniture pet protector blanket available — dogs are welcome on the sofa with it in place ▪ Please keep pets off all beds ▪ Please clean up after your dog on the property ▪ Pets must not be left unattended inside or outside at any time ▪ Please note the spiral staircase to the loft may not be suitable for all dogs ✦ Wildlife: Deer, elk, foxes, wild turkeys, and the occasional black bear call this area home. Please do not feed wildlife and avoid leaving food or trash outside.

House Rules

PETS: We allow pets on per pet basis. If you have a service animal please provide the necessary documents before your stay. If you bring a pet without approval you will be asked to leave without a refund. HOT TUB: You agree to follow all rules and instructions provided before using the hot tub. Absolutely no glass in or near the hot tub. Hot tub use is at your own risk. SMOKING / 420 POLICY: Absolutely no smoking of any kind (including 420) inside the cabin. You may smoke only on the back driveway—and please fully extinguish all cigarettes. Do not toss butts on the ground; they are both litter and a fire hazard. Colorado forests are dry, and one careless ember could be disastrous. A $500 fine will be charged if indoor smoking is detected. TRASH POLICY: Do not leave any trash outside—bears and other wildlife are attracted to it. If you have more than one bag, please place all trash in the bear-proof bin at the end of the driveway. If you only have a single bag, you may leave it in the indoor trash can. Thank you for helping keep the area safe and clean! CONSERVATION: Please be mindful of water, electricity, and natural gas use (heat and fireplace). Resources are limited in this mountain environment, so we ask that you conserve whenever possible and respect the natural setting that makes this place so special. SEPTIC is sensitive. Do not overuse toilet paper and absolutely nothing flushed, except toilet paper. Flushing tampons, condoms, etc. can ruin the entire system. FIRES: Absolutely no open fires—this is non-negotiable. Colorado’s dry climate makes forest fires a serious risk. While you may see a fire pit on the property, it’s strictly off-limits to guests year-round. Fire bans are frequent, and neighbors won’t hesitate to call authorities. Violations will result in immediate removal from the property without a refund and potential fines. Please don’t risk it. WINTER BOOKINGS: From November through April, a 4WD or AWD vehicle with clearance is required—no exceptions. The cabin sits about half a mile down a plowed dirt road off Hwy 1. While the driveway is also plowed, snow and ice often remain, making it slick and potentially hazardous. Please come prepared, as assistance may not be available if you get stuck. PARTIES/GUESTS: No parties and no extra guests who are not included in the booking. Daytime guests may be allowed with approval from the hosts. NO SHOES INSIDE: Always remove your shoes in the entryway - there is a ton of gravel on the driveway that likes to stick to your shoes and scratch the floors. CHILDREN: Guests are fully responsible for their children’s safety and behavior. Please note the home is not completely childproof. Children under 6 are not allowed in the hot tub, and those aged 7–15 must be supervised by an adult at all times while using it.
